Golden Globes to Serve Entirely Plant-Based Menu
Hollywood’s elite will dine on a fully plant-based menu at the Golden Globes this Sunday, a move lauded by environmental and animal protection groups. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the decision yesterday, sparking widespread praise.
Menu Highlights Include Mushroom Scallops and Beet Soup
The menu, created by Chef Matthew Kenney, features dishes such as chilled golden beet soup, king oyster mushroom scallops with wild mushroom risotto, and roasted baby purple and green Brussels sprouts and carrots. HFPA president Lorenzo Soria stated the goal is to raise awareness about climate change, noting that food production and disposal significantly contribute to the crisis.

Environmental and Ethical Concerns Drive the Change
The decision reflects growing recognition of the environmental impact of meat-heavy diets. Producing one pound of meat requires up to fifteen pounds of grains and crops, often leading to deforestation and water waste. The livestock sector is also a major greenhouse gas emitter, rivaling the global transport sector, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Furthermore, the treatment of animals in factory farms raises serious ethical concerns, with hens confined to battery cages and calves and pigs kept in restrictive pens.
The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International have actively promoted plant-based consumption, collaborating with food service companies, restaurant chains, and grocery stores to develop and promote vegan options. They have also trained over 10,000 food service professionals and assisted numerous school districts and hospital systems in reducing their meat consumption.
